The program includes engaging online instruction, great books, and effective materials. Your child will be able to complete all online lessons independently, with a knowledgeable reading teacher available for support.

The entire program is self-paced and tailored to your child’s reading level, so your son or daughter will experience success at every step!

Independent Reading In Great Books

We select books for your child’s individual reading level, ensuring that he or she will succeed with reading during the program.

Reading books at the right level of difficulty provides great skills practice and a big head start on 1st grade. Your child will have a positive experience with books and be enthusiastic about reading.

You’ll also receive our Best Books Booklist, which will help you choose more great books after the program is over.

Phonics

This program will give your child a solid foundation in first-grade phonics, the most important skill for learning to read. Children learn phonics skills through interactive online lessons. Because the online instruction in the program is tailored to your child’s reading level, learning phonics will be easy and fun.

Sight Words

Recognizing words like “have” and “was” by sight makes learning to read much easier and provides a big boost in confidence. Your child will learn and practice sight words through fun interactive games. By the end of the program, students recognize more than a third of the words in first-grade books without sounding them out.

Comprehension

Your child will build strong comprehension skills through online video instruction led by reading superhero Bookman. Bookman will teach your son or daughter to recognize story structure, identify with characters, and follow the events in a book.

Support From A Teacher

A reading teacher from the Institute of Reading Development will be available to discuss your child’s progress with you and answer any questions you may have.

“She got very confident after the program. She was able to recognize so many more sight words – I would say about 50 additional from what she had already learned – and she was able to read books. That was a major accomplishment from the program that I was very excited about.”

– Irma, Parent of an Entering 1st Grader

I definitely noticed that her reading improved after the program. Yesterday, she said she had the ‘best day ever’ because her teacher asked her to read some words and she could do it on her own.
